Tarot Card Meditation for Relaxation

Most people think that a deck of Tarot Cards are only useful for divination, predicting the future, or telling fortunes.  Actually, the Tarot as used in ancient times was used like a book of the Bible would be used, to read the Kabala, ancient wisdom stored in the cards. In modern times, however, there are other more practical uses for the Tarot.

For many years I have used the cards for meditation or to find answers to life situations. Here’s how the meditation is done. First, get a standard Tarot deck. I like the Waite-Rider deck and use it extensively both for meditation, problem-solving, and divination. The decks are not expensive and can be found in bookstores or online. Separate the 22 cards of the Major Arcana from the rest of the deck – the Minor Arcana. Choose a comfortable, quiet place where you will not be disturbed. All you will really need is a comfortable chair so you can relax. Look through the cards of the Major Arcana until you see one that gives you a  positive feeling. Choose that one and put the others aside. Then simply look at the card and allow your mind to wander around inside it. Let the card talk to you. You can even close your eyes and picture the card in your mind.

You don’t have to know the literal meaning of the cards you use since you are allowing your own mind to find meaning in the card as you meditate. Relax your body and feel the negative energy flowing out and positive energy flowing in. You may feel a tingling in your body which means that your circulation is being increased as the negative energy leaves you. You can meditate on the card for about 15 minutes or as long as 30 minutes if you like. After you have completed the meditation, place the card back in series in the Major Arcana, ready for the next time.
