Lying in the hospital for too many hours with not much to do I had time to observe and listen to the world around me. suddenly I had time to watch people and their behavior, the way they walk talk or relating to others, as with the lack of tv phone or any other media device I have to admit, they were my only entertainment source. And I also had time to reflect on my own reaction toward them. Most of the nurses presented me with a constant smile used to approach me every shift presenting themselves with their name and telling me they are at my service.
One day the nurse on shift was young gay guy dressed in female nurse uniform , his hair all tied up and painted and slight make up over his face and his entire attitude was saying he took great pride at his feminine tendencies and grace. so graceful and precise he was that he hardly spoke to any of the patients and did his work in silence dedicated completely to the chores he was facing weather it was changing the sheets on the bed or installing a new injection in my vain , but not a word or sign of friendly hood.at first for sure my spiky roots made me feel I need to get to him, to trigger his nerves to make him realize that he has to be nice cause this is his job to be nice toward miserable us in the hospital beds and I wanted to snap at him. however must we not forget I was bounded to hours of silence and meditation and something within me told me that I have to find a different way to approach things so I came up with a plan.
Once he entered my room to adjust my medication supply I have asked him what is his name and he said Salvador. OMG I cried out what a beautiful name and so fitting your job saving people (Salvador is a savior in Spanish) and adding to the admiration attack I have said: and you remind me so much of my good friend from the big city she is a model and so pretty and you look just like her.
I figured out he tries so hard to be feminine and elegant why not add some beauty compliment to my kindness attack. The change in his attitude was so fast it took me by surprise. he got a big smile on his face called me Hija (daughter in Spanish) replace the medication in a most gentle way and came back to check on me every half hour during his entire shift. In fact it felt like Uma Thurman succeeding in moving her toe in the movie Kill Bill. all with the mind no physical effort and such great change.next time someone trigger you off try to remember Salvador . chances are great that a lil compliment a smile and a soft attitude will get you better result then you can imagine, no need to get into hospital bed for it.
