When I was asked to write a blog, I thought, what a great way for us to get to know each other. The next moment I had to wonder how to introduce myself. After a few moments I knew the way to start is to tell you a few things about myself. I often use art to touch the intuitive part of me. When I create I often trance and and let what is inside, come right out into the piece that I’m working on.
Alice is one of those creations. I found an old mannequin in the back of an antique store that was going out of business. On her fanny was written Alice and a number. She was bald, was missing her arms and had an old monks robe on.
I started collecting all the metaphysical art, clippings and magazine photos that I could find to use to decoupage her. (I have used collage and decoupage since 1969 when I created my first college valentine box.)
After six months of work, I hand braided and glued her hair on, she was covered with many hours of glue and metaphysical messages all over her body. Then she was topped off with jewels. I finished her, and then my husband and myself took her all around our area and photographed her. She has been all over the peninsula, and has stimulated conversations with many curious people.
Alice would be my mascot right outside the tent that we would do our readings in the days we were working the traveling scene. Alice has been to the Castro in San Francisco and sat right in front of the Castro Theater. She has watched many meditation sessions take place, women gathered to celebrate their inner goddess, she is a part of me, a part of my very being.
In that way I will let you get to know me through my art. I often visualize what you all might create or are creating as I chat with you. Art is an important part of a healthy being, are you creating? I hope so, it is so great for the soul.
I hope to share more of my creations and thoughts with you soon.
